Project Introduction:
Stena Line, an ABTA member, is an international transport and travel service company and one of the world’s leading ferry operators which operates in three business areas: Scandinavia, the North Sea and the Irish Sea with a network of 18 strategically located ferry routes in Europe. Stena Line has a modern fleet with a total of 35 vessels including fast ferries (Stena HSS), traditional combi-ferries, RoPax ferries for freight and passengers, and pure cargo ships, it’s a stable and profitable group and is committed to providing passengers with the best service and experience possible. During 2009, approximately 15.4 million passengers traveled with Stena Line. 3.3 million cars and 1.6 million freight units were transported during the same period. Inurface media was asked to provide a menu board solution for their two latest Superfast ferries, Superfast VII and Superfast VIII, following a £26 million refurbishment. Stena Line needed a flexible solution which allowed either the remote IT department or onboard customer service team to update the menu boards with the latest information.
 

A global fast food giant, as part of their branding strategy, was revamping the digital signage systems at their restaurants in China, starting with their chain outlets in Shanghai. Their original digital signage platform was powered by commercial-grade PCs, with attendant frequent downtime and short product lifecycles. To overcome these frustrations, the fast food chain sought systems with greater reliability, and opted to install industrial-grade signage players instead. They also hoped that the upgrade could include support for full-HD video playback as well as content in other formats, including Flash, scrolling marquees, and hi-res images, all of which they intended to use to enhance presentation of their brand image.

One of our Chinese customers was working with a chain of automotive maintenance centers in Shanghai to revamp its digital signage system.Their earlier media player solution used commercial grade computers, and their frustrations with the short product life cycles sent the system integrator seeking a more rugged and enduring solution.Advantech’s digital signage media players met all requirements for high-definition video and real time information delivery as well as long product life, all at an impressively affordable price.

After nearly four years in the works, the 2010 Taipei International Flora Exposition opened this November 6th, 2010. The service administrators for the event realized the importance of a reliable information broadcasting system for event handling. After reviewing similar setups at the 2010 World Expo in Shanghai and other exhibitions, they proposed a network of digital signage displays to communicate premium services and information throughout the Flora expo. The plan called for an installation of fifteen units designed for interactive use around the "Pavilion of the Future".

The Taiwan Easy Card is a stored-value card system used for convenient payment of bus, taxi, and subway fares. And its use has just been extended. When visiting Taiwan's celebrated Sun-Moon Lake resort, it is now possible for tourists to collect information about local promotions, activities, travel destinations, and more with a quick swipe of the Easy Card. Shopping, store promotions, and travel guide information are all conveniently accessible as well.

Smallest Embedded Box PC Saves Power, Space, and Costs Area: USA, Project: Advantech rolled out the world’s smallest embedded box PC at the very beginning of 2012. Dubbed the ARK-1120, it features a palm-print size of 133.8 x 43.1 x 94.2 mm (W x H x D) and weighs only 0.8 kg. Small yet impressive, its CPU runs at above-average speed yet with much reduced power consumption. This mini killer product received its first order from a medical cart supplier based in the USA. This medical cart maker’s previous solutions used a laptop bolted to the top of the cart, or a commercial PC placed in the cart cabinet, with a matched monitor on the desk. Both laptops and commercial PCs are space-consuming, however, and difficult to secure to mobile carts, and their product service cycles are of short duration, which meant they had to be replaced every two or three years.

Passenger Information Display Systems (PIDS) are digital information systems which display real-time information for passengers. Train operating companies are constantly striving to improve passenger satisfaction by offering more than just arrival and departure times. They also offer news and entertainment content as well as safety and emergency announcements and much more. These days, advertising is an important revenue stream for train operators, and that’s why PIDS are becoming more and more indispensable. A national train operator in Belgium was looking for an effective solution to upgrade their existing and outdated passenger information system whilst providing extra value to their customer experience.
